How fast can I schedule my repair appointment?
In most of the cities we serve we can offer a same day or next day appointment. We plan each technician's route a day ahead, so if a slot on a nearby route is still open for today, we will offer it to you. If today is full, you get the first opening tomorrow. Either way you receive a two hour arrival window rather than a whole day of waiting, and a message before the technician sets out.
How much does it cost to have a technician come out?
We do not charge a separate call-out or diagnostic fee, and there is no travel charge inside the ZIP codes listed on our city pages. The technician tests the appliance and then gives you one price covering parts, labor and any applicable tax. Most in-home repairs come to between $150 and $450. You hear that price before any work begins, and nothing is taken apart until you approve it.
What hours can I reach you?
Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The person who answers can book a visit, tell you where an existing appointment stands, move it to another day, or answer a question about work we have already done.
What is included with a preventive maintenance visit?
A maintenance visit is a full tune-up. The technician inspects the general condition of the appliance, checks the visible wiring and connections, cleans the parts that lose performance when they clog, such as condenser coils and filters, and tests and adjusts the controls. We also look over the major working parts for wear that has not caused a breakdown yet, and afterward the technician explains what was found.
Do you repair appliances you did not sell?
Yes. It makes no difference where the appliance was purchased or how old it is, provided the brand is one of the twenty four listed on this site. Give us the model number from the rating plate when you book and the technician will arrive carrying the parts that most often wear out on that model.
What warranty comes with the repair?
Thirty days on our labor, printed on the invoice you keep, along with whatever warranty the manufacturer provides on the part itself. If the same problem returns within those thirty days, a technician comes back and there is nothing more to pay for our work.

The parts a technician names on the phone, in plain words.
What is a compressor?
The pump at the bottom of a refrigerator or freezer that moves refrigerant around the sealed system, and the single most expensive part in the cabinet. Almost everything owners blame on a compressor turns out to be the relay that starts it, the fan that cools it or the coil it is trying to lose heat through.
What is a condenser coil?
The black grille at the back or underneath, where the heat taken out of your food is handed to the room. It only works while air can pass through it, which is why salt near the coast and grease in a busy kitchen both shorten a refrigerator's life by clogging the same fins.
What is an evaporator fan?
The small fan inside the freezer that blows cold air forward into the fresh food compartment. When it stalls, the freezer keeps holding zero while the shelves above it climb into the forties, which is why a warm refrigerator with a perfectly cold freezer is so rarely a refrigerant problem.
What is a defrost thermostat?
A switch that lets the defrost heater run only while the evaporator is genuinely cold, then cuts it off. It is one of three parts in the defrost circuit, and metering each leg separately is what stops a two dollar switch being replaced by a whole assembly.
What is a drain pump?
The motor that pushes waste water out of a washer or a dishwasher. A machine that fills, washes and then stops with water sitting in the base has usually not lost its pump; something has jammed the impeller, and a coin or a hair grip is the most common thing we pull out of one.
What is a door boot?
The flexible rubber seal between the drum and the frame on a front load washer. It traps everything that comes out of a pocket, and a tear in it is the reason a machine leaks only during the spin, when the water is thrown outward hard enough to find the gap.
What is a thermistor?
A sensor whose resistance changes with temperature, which is how a modern appliance knows how cold or how hot it actually is. A thermistor reading a few degrees low will keep a compressor running all day chasing a temperature the cabinet reached hours ago.
What is an igniter?
On a gas oven, the part that both glows hot enough to light the gas and tells the safety valve it is safe to open. A weak igniter still glows, which is why an oven that lights slowly, or lights on some days and not others, is nearly always this part rather than the valve behind it.
What is a start relay?
The small part that gives a compressor the extra push it needs to get moving. When it drops out under load you hear a click, then a buzz, every few minutes. More sound refrigerators are thrown out over this one part than over anything else we are called to.
What is a heating element?
The coil that makes the heat in a dryer, a dishwasher or an electric oven. It either passes current or it does not, so it is one of the few parts that can be confirmed with a meter in under a minute, before anything is opened up further.
